Opening your garage door in a power cut

No one can predict when a power outage will happen, but it's guaranteed to be an inconvenience. Here's a handy guide to getting your garage open when there is no power.

  1. Locate the emergency cord. It’s usually red and hooked to the center rail.
  2. Firmly pull the cord until you feel it pop. This means the door is no longer connected to the chain.
  3. Lift the door straight up until it’s fully open, being sure it stays open before stepping away.

If this isn’t something you can do safely, contact a garage door service and ask about a battery backup feature which will allow use of the garage door even when the power is out.
